Azerbaijan is increasing fines for drivers who ignore red traffic lights and drive on the wrong side of the road. The Milli Majlis, Azerbaijan's parliament, discussed the proposed amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses in the first reading during today's session.
In line with the amendment, a fine of 100 manats (about $59) will be imposed for continuing to drive when a prohibiting sign is displayed by a traffic light or a traffic controller, violating the requirements of the 3.1 "No Entry" road sign or passenger transportation rules, overtaking or maneuvering by driving into the oncoming traffic lane, violating the rules for passing intersections, entering a gas station with passengers, and violating the requirements of road markings 1.1, 1.3, and 1.11 when turning left or making a U-turn. Previously, the fine for these offenses was 80 manats (about $48).
After discussion, the draft amendments were put to a vote and adopted in the first reading.
