Over the past year, about twenty people have been shot to death in France for refusing to obey the police, Eric Gozlan, the Co-Director of the International Council for Diplomacy and Dialogue.

He noted that the Nanterre riots in France, are the result of the government's unfair policy.

Gozlan said that the police committed a serious mistake in terms of professionalism with the murder of a 17-year-old teenager: “According to French law, a police officer is only allowed to use a weapon if there is a threat to himself, another colleague or bystanders.”

According to him, the cause of people's anger was not only the death of the teenager but also the false allegations made by the police: “So, although the police claimed that Nahel and his friend drove the car over them, the video footage showed the opposite. Thus, as a result, the lies of the police were exposed. It was these false claims that caused people's rage. Recent events show that people are fed up. In particular, we are not talking about one police officer here, but all police officers in general. People believe that if the police lied to cover up their mistake in the latest incident, then the police have made false allegations in similar incidents in the past. People are right to think so.”

Gozlan stressed that there are big issues in the suburbs of Paris:

“In those areas, small ethnic and religious minorities live isolated in ghettos. Thus, cases of drug trafficking and unemployment are rising there. However, the government tries to establish peace in the social sphere by turning a blind eye to these issues. The current situation is the result of the government’s unfair policy towards the mentioned issues.”
