Hikmat Hajiyev: “Democratic development is choice of Azerbaijani government and Azerbaijani people”

The new political configuration in Azerbaijan’s domestic policy and the government-opposition dialogue initiated by the head of state have been discussed by Presidential Aide - head of the Foreign Policy Issues Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev on the “Week” program of Azerbaijan Television.

H. Hajiyev noted that the head of state had delivered a speech and given relevant instructions at the meeting on the outcomes of 3 months of the current year: "Moreover, at this meeting, issues related to Azerbaijan’s domestic policy agenda, as well as issues related to its foreign policy, were properly explained by President Ilham Aliyev. The head of state emphasized that Azerbaijan is taking over a new political configuration in the domestic policy. The new political configuration is to build dialogue between the main political parties, which are ready for constructive dialogue, on the political stage of our country.

In general, the democratic development is the conscious choice of the Azerbaijani government and Azerbaijani people. First of all, this is the process serving the benefit of the Azerbaijani people and the interests of our country. The commendable fact in this process is that the majority of political parties highly appreciate it. However, at the same time, we should note with regret that there are some marginal political forces which could not get rid of the political atmosphere of the 90s and continue their destructive and insidious political course.  

If we take a look at the archival materials, diplomatic correspondence of that period, we will see that these people were looking for a solution to issues related to Azerbaijan’s domestic policy agenda not here, but overseas. Those are the people who were receiving instructions from first secretaries and attaches of a number of foreign diplomatic representations operating in the country and took them as the main principles for themselves and pursued their policy under the guidance of those people. Therefore, these people are still ruled by the foreign dependence and colony ideology. For this reason, they are concerned with our country’s achievements and the fact that our country is getting through this hard time. Nevertheless, they are the marginal forces on Azerbaijan’s political stage, and the unity of the Azerbaijani people and government, at the same time, our country’s reforms in the political field and development process are before everybody’s eyes, and these are the factors ensuring the sustainable development of our country."
