Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Rovshan Rzayev met on February 5 with representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to Azerbaijan Guido Ambroso.
It was noted at the meeting for about 30 years of the conflict, the measures on the improvement of the living conditions of former IDPs have been taken in accordance with the instructions of President, Commander-in-chief of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev. First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva pays special attention to the solution of social problems of IDPs. Important works are carried out in this field.
Guido Ambroso was given information about the works carried out for the implementation of necessary infrastructure projects and estimation of the damage done to the Azerbaijani territories during the Armenian occupation. It was highlighted that the work on clearing the territories from mines has been speeded up, and it is anticipated that the "smart city", "smart village" concepts will prevail during the restoration of human settlements. In accordance with the task of the head of state, the Coordination Headquarters has been established, the Strategic Action Plan and Plan of Events have been prepared. The Committee chairman noted that preparations were underway for the IDPs to return to their native lands. The important mission is to fulfill this process in accordance with international norms and ensure the safe return of the civilians.
Guido Ambroso highlighted that the UN Refugee Agency was ready to cooperate on the issues related to the IDPs and would not spare efforts in this regard.
