Number of railway stations in Baku to be increased to 54 by 2040

By the end of 2027, it is planned to reconstruct, put into operation and build 20 passenger stations on the Absheron Peninsula, including the construction of four new stations along the North-South corridor between Balajari station and Baku railway station.

That the Baku General Masterplan provides for the reconstruction of the railway infrastructure passing through the Lokbatan settlement and use it as a passenger station, and open regular commuter train services from Lokbatan to the Baku railway station.

The plan also provides for the restoration of the line from Bakikhanov station to Zira, consisting of 8 reconstructed stations Bulbula, Amirjan, Surakhani, Yeni Surakhani, Bina, Gala, Dubandi and Zira, as well as the creation of the Garadag-Guzdak and Zabrat-Mashtaga-Zagulba railway corridors, and two new stopping points in the Garadagh region.

In addition, it is planned to lay a new railway line to the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, build a new railway line from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport to the villages of Yeni Surakhani and Bina, as well as restore the activity of the Hovsan railway station.

By 2040, it is planned to create a new railway corridor Binagadi-Mehdiabad-Fatmai-Pirshaghi to provide direct rail communication between the city center and the northern part of the peninsula and expand the area covered by rail transport.

It is planned to increase the total length of the railway network on the Absheron Peninsula from 195.4 km to 338.6 km, and the number of stations will be increased from 26 to 54.
