Meetings of the Political Affairs and Regional Security, Trade and Economic Affairs, Scientific, Education, Culture and Sports Issues Committees of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly (PA), as well as the bureau meeting, have been held in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv.
The Azerbaijani delegation was represented by MPs Azar Karimli, Ali Masimli and deputy head of the International Relations Department of Milli Majlis Rustam Mahmudov.
Azerbaijani MPs voiced their proposals at the committee meetings. Addressing the Committee for Political Affairs and Regional Security, Azar Karimli recalled that the 4 UN Security Council resolutions on the immediate withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan remain unfulfilled.
The MP noted that as a result of Armenia’s unconstructive stance, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has not been resolved yet. He highlighted that the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is possible only within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and the existing status-quo cannot last.
During the speech, Armenia’s occupational policy was condemned. Highlighting the latest provocative statement of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azar Karimli said that this statement is supposed to intensify the conflict in the region.
He recalled Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s “Karabakh is Azerbaijan and exclamation mark” sentence: “Azerbaijan developing day by day will not agree with the fact of occupation.”
Representatives of the partner-countries (Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova) condemned the occupational policy and supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
The Ukrainian side emphasized the importance of the establishment of a special center for the cyber security of GUAM member-states. It was also noted that it was important to hold discussions in this sphere and attract GUAM+ format for the creation of the center.
