The rights of Azerbaijani IDPs expelled from their native lands as a result of the Armenian occupation have been discussed at the next session of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly (PA) in Ukraine's Kyiv.
Addressing the session, Azerbaijani MP Azar Karimli said that for almost 30 years, Armenia has been keeping 20 percent of the Azerbaijani territories under occupation, and as a result of that, over 1 million refugees and IPDPs have been displaced from their native lands; their rights have been violated.
He emphasized that international organziations forget about the rights of Azerbaijani refugees while discussing human rights, and it must be solved: “The rights of Azerbaijani refugees violated by Armenia must be taken into account.
Along with the occupation factor, Azar Karimli also highlighted that Armenia has subjected the Azerbaijanis living in its territories to ethnic cleansing. He said that currently, the Azerbaijani state has created all the necessary conditions for refugees and that Armenia must put an end to the occupation for the Azerbaijanis to return to theuir lands: “However, despite this, Armenia ignores the 4 resolutions of the UN and the decisions of the European Union, and at the same time, it causes a threat to the regional security. Thus, Armenia puts its own people to a deplorable situation”.
Representatives of the participating states (Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia) condemned the fact of occupation and supported the speech of their colleagues.
It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan is represented by MPs Azar Karimli, Ali Masimli and deputy head of the International Relations Department of Milli Majlis Rustam Mahmudov at the session.
