"The damage has been caused to the country by the demolishing of the tram lines once existing in Baku. Now, it is difficult to create those lines again," said chairman of Azerbaijan Railways Closed Joint Stock Company (CJSC) Javid Gurbanov at a press conference. He noted that the company has applied to foreign companies in connection with this issue; currently, the business plan is being prepared.

Besides, according to Javid Gurbanov, the passenger density observed on Baku-Sumgayit railway line will be eradicated. At the present time, Baku-Sumgayit trains operate till 11 o'clock in the morning and after 16:00 in the evening. Not only passengers, but also the transportation of cargo cause density on this road.

It was also highlighted at the press conference that after the opening of the Absheron Circular Railway Line, the road of trains will also be prolonged. It will increase intensity. The deployment of new trains to the line will be inevitable. Thus, the density will be prevented by raising the number of trains. It should also be noted that negotiations are held with Switzerland’s “Stadler” company; it is planned to bring new trains to the country in 2021.

Another project, which execution is underway, is the railway line from Laki railway station to Gabala. The road with the length of 46 km is planned to be commissioned in the next tourism season.

One more innovation is prolonging the route of trains operating in the direction of Baku-Ganja to Aghstafa. The chairman of the institution also addressed citizens who build or want to build private houses near the railway lines.

The works are carried out on the organization of passenger transportation via Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line. The passenger transportation will be launched in the near future. Talks are held to attract additional cargo to the mentioned railway. So far, 300, 000 tons of cargo have been transported via this line. Additional 500-600, 000 tons of cargo may be transported via this railway line by attracting Kazakhstan.
