The compulsory medical insurance system will be applied in stages in Azerbaijan since January 1st 2020. A meeting on the works carried out in this field so far and the implementation of the compulsory medical insurance across the country in stages next year has been held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Republic Ali Asadov.
Since 2016, President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev has signed a number of important decrees and orders in the field of compulsory insurance. Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Ali Asadov said that since 2017, the compulsory medical insurance has been applied in our country as a pilot project.
Within the framework of the compulsory medical insurance implemented in Mingachevir city, Yevlakh and Aghdash regions, 370, 000 people have been provided with free medical services on the basis of the basic envelope.
The decisions made by President Ilham Aliyev in connection with the implementation of the compulsory medical insurance in our country have proven once again that the human factor is in the center of the state policy. In accordance with the law that will enter into force since January 1st 2020, 900 mln AZN will be allocated by the state to the insurance of the population.
It was noted that the compulsory medical insurance will envisage 4.4 million citizens, including pensioners, low-income groups and people under the age of 18. The compulsory medical insurance will be applied in stages. Thus, the population will join the compulsory medical insurance system in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and 23 regions since January 1st, in 20 regions since April 1st, in 15 regions since July 1st and in Baku, Sumgayit and on Absheron since October 1st. Thus, the population in all regions of Azerbaijan will join the compulsory medical insurance system by the end of 2020.
