The weather forecast for holidays in Azerbaijan has been announced.

According to Director of the National Department of Hydrometeorology of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Umayra Taghiyeva, on the December 30 night, eastern regions of the country, including Baku and the Absheron peninsula, will see interim rain that will stop in the second half of December 31.

U. Taghiyeva noted that on the first day of the New Year, the country expects temperatures to be close to 14 degrees, with mild, windy weather: "The weather in the country will be dry on January 1 and 2. Temperatures will drop by 3-4 degrees from January 3 to January 5. Rain and snow are likely in the mountainous regions. From January 6, the weather will become mild and dry".

Umayra Tagiyeva said that during the last 20 years, sleet and snow have only been observed four times on the Absheron peninsula and in Baku on December 31: in 2006, 2008, 2012, and 2015: "Snow fell three times on January 1 - in 2007, 2009, 2016. 2009 saw 14-cm snow cover, a rare event for Baku".
