The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Germany marked the sixth anniversary of the country’s Victory in the Patriotic War with an event titled “Peace and Coexistence” at the Azerbaijan Cultural Centre in Berlin.
Nearly 350 guests, including German officials, foreign diplomats, military attachés, journalists, academics, cultural figures, and members of Azerbaijani, Turkish, and other communities, attended the event, which opened with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs.
A film dedicated to Victory Day, observed on November 8, was screened during the event.
Addressing the gathering, Elgun Niftali, Director of the Azerbaijan Cultural Centre in Berlin, highlighted the significance of Victory Day in terms of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and national and cultural identity. He emphasized the importance of marking the occasion through cultural events and music that promote peace and coexistence.
Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Germany Nasimi Aghayev described Victory Day as a symbol of national unity, heroism, and restored territorial integrity. He paid tribute to the martyrs and attributed the Victory to the bravery of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, national unity, and the decisive leadership of President and Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. He also highlighted ongoing reconstruction efforts in Garabagh and East Zangezur, as well as the return of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homes.
In his address, the ambassador outlined the consequences of the prolonged occupation of Azerbaijani territories, including the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis and the destruction of towns and villages across an area of 10,000 square kilometres. He stressed the need to investigate these crimes and hold those responsible accountable, drawing attention to the gap between law and justice in international relations.
The programme also featured an ethno-jazz performance by the “Gaytaghi” ensemble and concluded with a reception showcasing Azerbaijani cuisine.
