Chronicle of the Patriotic War: November 5
In response to the large-scale provocations committed by Armenian armed forces along entire length of the front, the Azerbaijani Army on September 27, 2020, launched a counter-offensive which then dubbed as “Iron Fist”. The 44-day war has put an end to the almost thirty years of occupation and ensured the restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The bright victory achieved under leadership of the Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev has been written in the history of Azerbaijan in golden letters.
During the day on November 4 and night on November 5, the Armenian armed forces fired at the positions of the units of Azerbaijan Army in different directions of the front and our residential settlements with various small arms, howitzers and mortars. The combat operations continued with varying intensity, mainly in the, Aghdara and Khojavand directions of the front. The enemy was forced to retreat with casualties on personnel and military vehicles in some areas of the front.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev was interviewed by the Spanish EFE news agency.
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry released a video footage of the liberated from occupation villages of Fuzuli district.
As a result of the operation carried out by the units of the Azerbaijan Army in the Tartar direction of the front, the enemy's military infrastructure was seriously damaged. The headquarters of the 7th mountain rifle regiment of the 10th mountain rifle division of the Armenian armed forces in the village of Tonashen, barracks, vehicles loaded with ammunition and other military infrastructure were destroyed by artillery strikes.
Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Defense presented a video footage of the military vehicles left by the Armenian armed forces on the battlefield while fleeing and seized by the Azerbaijani Army as a war trophy.
The residential settlements of Goranboy and Tartar districts were fired on by the units of Armenian armed forces. According to the ministry, at 07.50 in the morning, 4 shells were fired by the enemy at Giyamaddinli village of Aghjabadi district.
During the battles in the Aghdam direction of the front, the units of the Azerbaijan Army fired at the batteries of the 41st artillery regiment of the Armenian armed forces. Enemy’s large quantities of ammunition were blown up and the artillery pieces were completely destroyed.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan revealed the statistics on crimes committed against civilians as a result of Armenian aggression from September 27 till November 5. As a result of heavy artillery and missile attacks to Azerbaijan’s residential settlements, 92 civilians were killed and 404 people were injured. Moreover, 2,971 houses, 100 residential buildings and 502 civilian facilities were damaged as a result of Armenia’s military aggression.
EVERY MOMENT OF THE VICTORY
On September 27, 2020, the Armenian armed forces carried out a large-scale provocation and subjected the positions of the Azerbaijani Army in the frontline zone and human settlements to intensive fire from weapons, mortars and other artillery devices. As a result, in order to prevent the combat activeness of the Armenian army and ensure the security of civilians, the Azerbaijani Army Command decided to launch a counter-attack operation across the frontline. The confrontations escalated quickly and turned into the Second Karabakh War.
During the 44-day war with the Republic of Armenia, Jabrayil was liberated on October 4, Fuzuli - on October 17, Zangilan - on October 20, Gubadli - on October 25 and Shusha - on November 8. In accordance with the statement signed in Moscow, starting from 01:00 Baku time, November 10, it was declared that the military operations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone were completely terminated, until December 1, Armenia would withdraw from the Azerbaijani territories around Nagorno-Karabakh, and the construction of new transport communications connecting Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with Azerbaijan's western regions would be ensured.
On November 20, 2020, Aghdam was liberated, on November 25 - Kalbajar, on December 1 - Lachin.
